OUR MISSION

La Voz Del Mambo magazineTHE ORIGINAL UNDERGROUND SALSA DANCE MAGAZINE
OUR STORY

From an online newsletter to a magazine read around the world.

La Voz Del Mambo began as Johnny R. Johnson’s online salsa newsletter. Its candid articles and interviews with renowned dancers, musicians, instructors, performers, and DJs quickly earned a following in the underground dance scene.

After two years, Johnny partnered with event promoter Christian Soto to create LaVoz Magazine, a print expression of that same community voice. The first issue debuted in July 2006 with Victor and Burju of Hacha Y Machete Dance Company on the cover, alongside conversations with Bobby Cruz, Cuban Pete, and Eric Baez.

Today, the archive remains a snapshot of a formative era in salsa—created by dancers, for dancers.
